Center for Learn Local
Where Learning Leads to Change
The Center for Learn Local specializes in place-based, community-centered, career-connected learning. We inspire and activate educators to level up their teaching practice.
We’re on a mission to transform traditional teaching by equipping educators with the tools they need to move learners from awareness to action.
The traditional teaching model we’ve been using for decades in most educational settings–from public schools to trades training to professional development–needs an overhaul.
By shifting the way we teach, we create better learning experiences so more students can connect to their place, tap their talents and become catalysts in their own communities.
Wherever you are, whatever you do, at any age, your community needs you!
We believe the first step is reconnecting with the world at your feet to develop a deeper sense of place.
In our hurry-scurry world, it’s easy to become distracted, disconnected and adrift.
Now more than ever, slowing down and observing the place where we are matters. Maybe it’s noticing oh-so-small changes in the landscape. Or wondering about the longevity of local storefronts. Or witnessing people doing things for the common good.
When we pay attention to what’s going on around us, we become rooted in the local. And becoming rooted allows us to care, which is a precursor to creating positive change.
How we can help support your teaching:
Courses
In-person workshops for all educators –designed to help you create better learning experiences.
If you teach in any capacity–as a classroom teacher, trades instructor, corporate trainer, program administrator, park ranger–we can help you take your teaching to the next level.
Resources
Free, field-proven teaching tools –usable with any content and in any type of classroom.
Our resources have been developed and refined over decades through continuous field-testing and feedback.
Featured Collaborators
We help learners own their learning by rediscovering wonder and whoa!
We are honored to collaborate with organizations, educators and learners all over the country. Our past projects vary in scope and scale–half-day adventures with middle schoolers to multi-year curriculum revamps with the National Park Service.
